Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Wanyaoshu in Luxi County, Yunnan. The Luxi Fm was named by Yunnan Party of Regional Geological Survey and Sheng Xinfu in 1963, and was published by Yunnan Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale (1980).

Synonym: (潞西组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is represented by dark gray thin- to medium-bedded argillaceous dolomite intercalated with minor siltstone. In the type area, the Luxi Fm is 80 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the sandy shale intercalated with marl of the Laojianshan Fm, which is defined to be the upper part of the present Shidian Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the sandy limestone intercalated with shale of the Mangjiu Fm.

Regional extent

The Luxi Fm is seen in Mangjiu, Yiwanshui and Wanyaoshu east of Luxi City.

This stratigraphic unit yields trilobites Lonchodomas yohi, Neseuretus birmanicus, Calymenesun tingi, Ampyx sp.
